While scientists continue to explore the Delta 8 compound, more products are making it to the shelves of Indianapolis all the time. You’ve most likely heard about Delta 8, but let’s take a deeper look, exploring what Delta 8 is and where you can find it in Indianapolis.

What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC is a natural compound short for delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol. It’s a cannabinoid found in hemp and cannabis plants. There are hundreds of chemical compounds found in the plant, but less than 100 are considered cannabinoids. Cannabinoids interact with the cannabinoid receptors that are located on the surface of our cells.

Delta 8 THC is primarily derived from hemp plants, so it is less potent than other extracts from cannabis plants. Hemp plants overall contain less THC than other plants within the same family.

What Are the Effects of Delta 8?

Cannabinoid receptors are found in certain parts of our central nervous system, mainly the receptors known as CB1 and CB2. The effects of cannabinoids on the body depend on the part of the brain that is affected.

For example, if the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotional and behavioral responses, is affected, then memory, cognition, and bodily function may feel an altered experience. However, if the mesolimbic pathway, which is the pathway that dopamine travels through, is affected, then pleasure and pain responses feel the desired experience.

THC is known to offer effects of happiness, relaxation, and pain relief, among other things. Delta 8, while still requiring a good amount of research, provides these same effects but in a milder form. The Delta 8 THC is less potent than other THC extracts, which is not a bad thing.

Those who are looking for a milder feeling of that euphoria will enjoy Delta 8 the most. A few effects that come with the use of Delta 8 THC, according to studies, include:

  • Calms mental activity and a rapid heart rate, resulting in an easier time falling asleep.
  • Soothes pain and inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Regulates certain hormones such as serotonin and dopamine, which can help with your overall mood and hormone balance.
  • Stimulates your appetite.
  • Adjusts and eases feelings of nausea.
  • Possible protection from long-term cognitive damage due to low oxygen levels in your blood, a medical condition known as hypoxia.

While these are the typical effects of Delta 8, people can feel different ways. In addition, those with a higher tolerance will feel fewer effects than those with a low tolerance. Other products, like edibles, vapes or oils, also affect the body in different ways. Delta 8 THC drops in your food could provide a different feeling than smoking a vape cartridge.

Delta 8 THC vs. Delta 9 THC

Delta 8’s popularity has continued to grow recently due to its similarity to Delta 9 THC. Both Deltas 8 and 9 are forms of THC; however, Delta 9 is the most prominent psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. When THC is referred to, people usually mean Delta 9.

These compounds are similar in chemical structure due to them both having double bonds. However, they differ in the placement of this double bond. The double bonds in Delta 8 are found higher on the chain of carbon atoms within the compounds, whereas the bond is located lower in the chain for Delta 9 compounds.

Due to this, the compounds bind to the endocannabinoid system within the body in different ways. This is thought to be why Delta 9’s effects are more potent than those of Delta 8.

Is Delta 8 Legal?

Most products that contain Delta 8 are comprised of the compound derived from CBD hemp, making it primarily legal. Based on the 2018 Farm Bill‘s definition of hemp, the state of Indiana has created a legal distinction in their Controlled Substance Act between cannabis products and hemp products; therefore, Delta 8 products are legal.

The Farm Bill declares that anything with a concentration of Delta 9 that is less than 0.3% is legal in the eyes of federal law. Due to products that contain Delta 8 not containing any Delta 9, these Delta 8 products are federally legal.

Where Can You Safely Find Delta 8 in Indianapolis?

The Delta 8 THC compound goes through different purification processes to make the Delta 8 products found on the market today, including tinctures, vape cartridges, and chocolate and gummy edibles. These products can be found at several different places, including gas stations and CBD shops.

Indy CBD Plus, located in Indianapolis, has a wide variety of Delta 8 THC products. We offer products such as buttercream caramels and Delta 8 infused peanut butter nuggets, and a wide range of gummy products, such as the watermelon gummies by 3 Chi.

The one factor that could make Delta 8 unsafe is the plant being grown and coming to the market untested and through unlicensed manufacturers. That’s why it’s so important to purchase your products through a legitimate manufacturer and market. That’s why we place such a high importance on curating the most trustworthy products at Indy CBD Plus.

Dosage of Delta 8

Some people may feel like they need to intake more Delta 8 products because their effects are milder than other THC products. However, the dosage you take should not exceed the amount that the product tells you. Delta 8 products are usually infused with a higher level of the compound than Delta 9 products.

All products will tell the amount of Delta 8 THC within the product in the measurement of milligrams. For example, the Delta 8 Gummies by Remedy is labeled with the number of gummies in the jar and the milligram amount of Delta 8 in each gummy. Each gummy has 50mg per gummy.

Due to the interaction between your body and the chemical composition of each Delta 8 compound, each person may experience the effects in different capacities. Your tolerance level and the dosage you take will also influence your experience. We at Indy CBD Plus recommend starting with a smaller dosage to determine how your body reacts before taking more.
